Have you
heard these words?
“Chip Off
the Old Walls”.
I have
just heard today when I come to know that Samit, the 10 years old elder son of
Rahul Dravid smashes a century in Under-14 tournament playing for Bangalore United
Cricket Club (BUCC) in Bangalore.
The young ‘Dravid’
hit 125 with 12 sprinkles to the boundaries, against Frank Anthony Public
School. His team-mate Pratyush G scored 143 not out, resulting in a huge
246-run win for BUCC.
Incidentally,
Rahul Dravid is the president of BUCC.
Playing in
the fifth edition of the 'Tiger Cup', an initiative to combine developing
cricket talent with creating awareness for tiger conservation at the the
Loyola ground, Samit, who will turn 11 this October, has made these runs.
The
tournament features a total of 16 school and club teams and is organised at the
Under-12 and Under-14 levels. Overall, 117 matches are played across 35 days.
This is
not the first time he is in the news. Previously in September 2015 he was named
‘Best Batsman’ in the U-12 Gopalan Cricket Challenge. Playing for his
school Mallya Aditi International, he hit three half-centuries — an
unbeaten 77, 93, and 77 again in the final, incidentally, all three fifties
came in match-winning causes.
"He's
ok, he's got good hand-eye coordination. But no, he just smashes it and that is
what I encourage him to do — just smash it. I don't really get into trying
to coach him too much. I just want him to enjoy it and just play the game, have
some fun with it. He plays different sports at the moment, which is good
— he plays football and cricket, he swims. So that's nice. He is too young
at the moment for anything else," Rahul Dravid said last year.
