BJP leader slams Delhi govt over desilting of drains

Accusing Delhi government of "failing" to establish coordination among its agencies responsible for desilting of major drains before the onset of monsoon, BJP leader Vijender Gupta expressed concern about flooding of various parts of the national capital.

"Delhi government has failed to establish effective coordination among different agencies responsible for desilting, including PWD, DJB, Irrigation and Flood Control, municipal corporations, DDA, DSIDC, NDMC and DMRC," the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly alleged.

"They will be found blaming one another when flooding takes place," he claimed.

Alleging "tardy pace" of desilting work, Gupta claimed the current pace will hardly be enough to achieve the target.

Also the chronic flooding spots during monsoon have not been taken care of so far.

These spots, including MB Road, NH-8, Wazirpur Industrial Area, BRT Corridor, Chandni Chowk, AIIMS flyover, Netaji Subhash Place, Okhla Mandi, Dwarka Link Road, Dhaula Kuan will again be flooded if the causes behind obstruction in flow of water is not addressed on time, he said.

Many large drains in the city including Nazafgarh drain, Wazirpur Industrial Area-Azadpur Nallah, Anand Parbat-Shastri Nagar-Sadar Bazar Nallah, Delhi Gate Nallah, Sen Nursing Home Nallah, Khabar pass Nallah, Mori Gate Nallah are choked with garbage and silt and have not been desilted yet, the BJP leader claimed.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay has asked all the three MCDs ruled by his party to ensure desilting of all drains under their jurisdiction before monsoon.

BJP workers today cleaned a stretch of the Yamuna river under Atal Yamuna Cleanliness Campaign held on 25th of every month.

"The workers and leaders including Satish Upadhyay and East Delhi Mayor Satya Sharma, removed four truckloads of garbage and silt from the river during the campaign," party spokesperson Praveen Kapoor said.
