Delhi woman murdered following property dispute in MP

A Delhi-based woman was allegedly killed by her relative, a local Congress leader, over a property dispute, police said today.

The woman, identified as Leena Sharma (40), was earlier working at U S Embassy School in Delhi but had left that job.

"Acting on a complaint that Leena was missing since April 28, we launched a hunt, and based on her phone's call details we identified few suspects and rounded them up. Upon questioning they revealed that they have killed her," Sohagpur Police Station in-charge Rajendra Barman said today.

The arrested persons were Pradeep Sharma (57), who is the maternal uncle of the deceased, and his two employees, Rajendra (21) and Gorelal (25), he said.

Sharma is Sohagpur Block Congress President, the official said.

Leena had come here to settle a land dispute with her uncle, and travelled to Sohagpur to demarcate 35 acres of ancestral land which had been encroached upon, the police official said.

The trio killed her on April 29, and buried the body in a forested area between Kamti and Dudadeh villages in the district, the police said.

On the leads provided by the trio, police retrieved her body from the place today.

Her mobile phone remained switched-off since April 29, and when her friends asked her relatives here about her location, they gave vague replies which led to suspicion about her safety, following which her friends alerted police and also launched a campaign on Facebook to trace her.

The body has been sent for autopsy to Bhopal. Further investigation is on.
