Journey: From Prime Minister to Chief Minister

Keeping as eye on the next year assembly elections, the Uttar Pradesh Congress is projecting Rahul Gandhi as the only Chief Minister candidate.
Why only?
Unable to come out of the shadow of the Gandhis, Eletion strategist Prasant Kishor, who is engaged by Congress party for the next year assembly elections, has made this presentation after meeting party leaders in the state.
As per him, this is the only option, if Congress wants to improve its tally and regain the lost ground, from the forth position.
One of the Gandhis, first Rahul second Priyanka has to lead from the front to pull out of the disorganization. Rahul is his first choice, while Priyanka is second.
While this idea has not been favoured by Sonia Gandhi, who is reported to be against both of them contesting assembly election. Priyanka has been kept away from electoral politics. She had only campaign for her mother and brother, both parliamentarians from Utter Pradesh.
Rahul Gandhi is seen as the part’s Prime Ministerial candidate.
Some senior Congress leaders see merit in this suggestion of Mr Kishor, who has earlier draw winning strategies for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Projecting Rahul Gandhi as the face of the party, in their view this could push the party in a winning position in a must win state.
Parliament elections are way away and scheduled to be held in 2019.
In 2012 assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to lead from the front.
In those elections, the party’s Gorakhpur district unit has issued large posters featuring his as Singham, the fearless cop from Bollywood film of the same name, played by actor Ajay Devgan.
In those posters, various allegations were made against rival leaders, including current Chief Minister of Samajwadi party, Akilesh Mishra and BSP’s Mayawati, showing them begging for ‘forgiveness’.
