One of the most awaited films of the season is Akshay Kumar starrer Rustom. The plot of the film is based on the infamous Nanavati murder case that shook the nation back in the 1950’s. The makers did their best to give the movie a realistic 50’s feel. From the trailer and songs of the film, it seems like the makers have nailed it. So did they do it exactly get it right. Director of the film spills the beans.
Rustom director Tinu Suresh Desai talked to a news daily about how they approached the idea of recreating the 50’s era, and how creative production work took shape. “A lot of research went into everything , from the interiors and the costumes., to details like what the people of the high society used to wear to the kinds of clothed the middle class wore etc etc.” he said.
The director got hold of a video shot way back in the 1950’s, which turned out to be of great help in research for the film. “We had got real life footage of the city in 1959, which wa shot by a great British tourist. It was of great help. Then, every team- from the production to costumes to camera department – brought their research together. All of them decided to combine the look and feel of the film. My technical team, including the VFX team, has been responsible for getting the desired look.” he added.
Earlier, talking to a news daily the actor had talked about his interest in realistic cinema.“When geniuses like Neeraj Pandey come to with you with an idea, you learn to never look the gift horse in the mouth. To me it’s a blessing that someone of Neeraj’s calibre has confidence in me, and wants me to represent matters of our nation on big screen.” he said.
Akshay Kumar already has two hits to his name this year -Airlift and Housefull 3. So there are high hopes riding on his shoulder for Rustom as well.
Rustom is all set to release on August 12. The film also stars Esha Gupta and Ileana D’Cruz in key roles.
