Kerala temple fire: 20 suspects detained, death toll mounts to 110



The police have so far nabbed 20 suspects in the preliminary combing operation conducted following the fireworks tragedy at Kollam’s Paravur Puttingal temple.

The devastating fire that engulfed the Temple complex during an unauthorised display of fireworks late night on Saturday, left 110 dead and 383 people injured.
Kerala government has ordered a judicial inquiry by a retired High Court Judge along with an investigation by Crime Branch of the State Police in the Puttingal Devi temple fire tragedy.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi who took stock of the Kollam temple inferno in Kerala yesterday, sought for a detailed report from the state administration as to how the fire broke out and caused damage to life and property on such a large scale.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala briefed him about the incident. Modi later visited the Kollam District hospital to see the injured people.
Talking to media persons, Modi said, in this hour of crisis, the Central Government is ready to extend all help to Kerala Government and the people of the state.
Union Health Ministry yesterday sent a team of 25 doctors and para-medics to assist in relief work in Kollam. Some of the specialists had gone with the Prime Minister while others headed for the site with necessary medicines.
